French Accessories Part One

When I initially wrote this, it cold here in the Washington, D.C. area so I thought it would be nice to do a round-up of French accessories. These accessories can really make any outfit feel more European. I included truly a mix of high and low options; I truly believe you don't have to spend a lot of money to look polished.

I've said this before but before I get into all of the links and my favorite finds I wanted to be clear that it's not the scarf or shoes that make an outfit feel “French” it's you. Yes, certain styles seem more European but at the end of the day, the French je-ne-sais-quoi that a lot of people try to emulate is just confidence. French people wear pieces that make them feel good and in turn, they look good.

Also, as I started to put this together I realized how many accessories I reach for when I am trying to exude a French-vibe. I didn't want this to get too long so I've decided to break this up into two parts! Check back another week for the other part.

LES FOULARDS

Honestly, the more the merrier. Adding a scarf to any outfit can not only add color and warmth but also that French allure. I think what I love most about scarves is there are so many beautiful options out there that won't break the bank.

LES BIJOUX

I personally think the simpler, the better. Of course there is always room for bigger and “louder” jewelry but that is typically reserved for special events and night time. During the day, people tend to stick to classic silhouettes. I personally gravitate toward yellow gold but that's not to say that the French don't go for silver-tones too!

LES SACS À MAINS

Like scarves, you can never have enough. That said, neutral is never a bad idea. A lot of these options are from MANGO--don't sleep on Mango! They have so many options that look far more expensive than they are. I think when anyone is starting to invest in luxury goods, I always suggest starting with one neutral and then sticking to your favorite color palette. If you're anything like me, you tend to baby your higher-cost items and probably wear them less. I think picking a fun color that you know you'll love year after year is a way to add interest to an outfit while protecting your investment.
